    2 pi. deep blue, a fine example used on 1872 double rate entire letter to Mansura during the 'grace period' of one month before the issue was demonetised (Jan 31, 1872) tied by V. R. POSTE EGIZIANE / ALESSANDRIA datestamp (Jan 3). Reverse with arrival datestamp of the same day and intact J & P Planta red wafer seal.

    Provenance: Greg Todd at Stanley Gibbons, circa 1975 - this was the first item I ever sold to Peter, who then explained the scarcity of the cover to me!
