    1863: Cover mailed six weeks before the Alexandria P.O. was opened, franked by Sardinia 1855/63 80 c. orange-yellow (4), all without surrounding margins tied by Livorno datestamps (Jan 18); endorsed at top 'Col vapore Assyrien francese' and carried at double rate of 3 lire 20 centesemi with manuscript '12' in pencil denoting grams on front. Reverse with 'Alexandrie / Egypte' cds (Jan 27) of receipt at the French Post Office.
