    1870 (Sept 17): Entire letter written from Alexandria franked by Great Britain 4 d. vermilion pl. 11 pair, faults, tied on arrival by 'P.' obliterators. The cover endorsed 'via Brindisi p. Italiano', travelled via Brindisi with transit cds (Sept 21) at left and framed small cartridge PIROSCAFI / POSTALI / ITALIANI in black. The Mount Cenis tunnel route was closed due to the Franco-Prussian War and thus the letter was diverted via Austria and was also found to be overweight, with docketed charge '1.80' at left and charged 1/6 d. due in manuscript on receipt in Liverpool (Sept 26). Despite imperfections, a most unusual entire.
