    1842: Entire letter from Bedford (Jan 30) initially to Alexandria and prepaid 1 sh. in manuscript, carried from Falmouth by the 'Lady Mary Wood' to Gibraltar and from there by the 'Great Liverpool' to Alexandria. On arrival forwarded by BRIGGS & Co. to Calcutta with reverse showing BOMBAY / STEAM LETTER entry marking in black and charged 2 rupees 5 annas due.
