    Switzerland 1873 (Sept 8): Double rate cover from Daylesford to Locarno, Tecino, Switzerland endorsed 'via Brindisi', franked by 181863/74 laureated 6 d. blue (3) and 1873 provisional ½ d. on 1 d. green (2, one applied over edge of cover) tied by 173 Daylesford obliterators, paying a 1/7d. rate. Underpaid for the Brindisi route (rate was 1/3d. per ½ ounce) and instead mailed by the cheaper via Southampton route and struck with London transit (Nov 4). Reverse with Melbourne cds (Sept 9) and Locarno cds (Nov 7). Cover #254 in the Palmer census and discussed on page 183. Despite imperfections, an unusual cover.
