    1 / 1
Puebla 8 r. black on red-brown and 4 r. dull red-rose on yellow, fine four margined examples, the latter with slight contemporary crease on application; used on July 28, 1862 cover from Puebla to Vera Cruz, tied by oval ADMON. PRAL DE CORREOS / PUEBLA handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 1152A) in black. The cover handstamped at top with large '12' in black as, at this date, Puebla was under the control of the Liberal Juaristas. When the letter 'Crossed the Lines', even though Vera Cruz used the same stamps, it was not recognised as fully paid and was again charged 12 reales Postage Due by the Conservatives. Extremely rare high franking and a great rarity of the issue, unique. Cert. Jaretzky (1987).

Note: At this date, Puebla had received just 2'400 of the 4 reales and 980 of the 8 reales.
