Lagos 8 r. black on red-brown, a quadrisect used as a 2 reales, 8 r. black on red-brown vertical bisect used as 4 reales, and a pair of ½ r. black on buff with large margins all round, all used on September 19, 1861 second page of entire letter from Lagos to Guadalajara for a 7 real rate; tied by straight line LAGOS handstamps (Schatzkes fig. 657) in black. Lagos had received two shipments at this date, totalling just 612 stamps of the ½ real, and only 200 of the 8 reales. Reverse of cover with superb strike of oval framed Stagecoach handstamp DILIGS. GENERALES / ADMON. DE LAGOS in black (Schatzkes fig. 661). An astonishing 'Double Split' franking of great rarity for the philatelic connoisseur. Cert. Jaretzky (1988).
