  • Lot# : 4110 Mexico

    1 / 1
Campeche 8 r. red-lilac, five single examples, all cut close, used in conjunction with 2 r. yellow green on cover and large part back to Carmen, two of the 8 r. adhesives have the 'Campeche' District overprint in black, three of the 8 r. show the District name in red as does the 2 r. yellow green; the overprints being applied presumably after the stamps were placed on the cover, the adhesives all individually cancelled with the rare 'Clef' handstamp in red (Schatkes fig. 56). One or two minor faults but a remarkable 42 reales franking, only 720 of the 8 reales were invoiced to Campeche of which 192 were returned. A magnificent and unique cover. Cert. Jaretzky (1987).

Provenance: Collection 'Roger Leret', Harmers, London (Nov 1955).
