    1 d. vermilion, a fine diagonally bisected example used on 1866 entire letter from Callao to Lima endorsed 'urgente' at top, tied by CALLAO datestamp (April 21) in black. Framed LIMA / 1A / DISTRIB.ON handstamp at right in black. Reverse with LIMA-M datestamp of receipt (same day). A fine entire. Signed Mondolfo.

    Note: From 1 January 1866 the tariff on correspondence by rail between Lima, Callao and Chorillos was reduced to 5 centavos. As there were no stamps of this value, bisection of the current stamps was allowed. Bisecting stopped on 5 June 1866.
