Lot# 218 - 181th Auction

  • Lot# : 218 Brasil

90 reis black, Early Impression in a corner marginal horizontal pair showing the horizontal frame line at top and vertical frame line at right (positions 5-6), used on piece (Duarte correspondence) with 60 reis black, Early Impression, a corner marginal example (position 13) showing the horizontal frame line at base and vertical frame line at left; all tied by CORREIO GERAL DA CORTE datestamps (5.8.43) in black of the fifth day of issue (whilst the second year slug is missing it is unlikely that Early Impressions would be used in August 1844 from the capital). Vertical crease between the second and third stamps where originally folded to show the 90 reis pair only, an exceptional and extremely rare piece.
