    1 d. black, plate 10, JL, large to very large regular margins all round, tied by a fine strike of the distinctive WOTTON UNDER EDGE Maltese Cross, used on large piece with part flap showing fine "WOTTON UNDER EDGE FE 21 1841" c.d.s. The Maltese Cross of Wotton under Edge with many cross cuts is one of the most famous, attractive and distinctive crosses, recorded to be used from August 1840 to mid-1842 (when two additional 'normal' Maltese Crosses were sent to Wotton u.E.).
