    1840: 1 d. black, plate 1a, lettered IL, used on large fragment dated 16 May 1840, from West Bromwich to Titford, four good to large margins, fine fresh colour, an attractive shade showing the early signs of plate wear, tied by multiple strikes of a red Maltese Cross. Scarce and early usage SG AS2tf = £3'250++ for a single on cover.
