    1881: Colombia, 5 c. blue, used on cover, from Panama to Bordeaux, France, dated 20 July 1881, clear to good margins all round, extremely vibrant colour, tied by wavy lined 'PANAMA' undated oval in black, with French 'CALAIS A PARIS 1' transit dated 9 August 1881, to reverse a commercial dated cachet 'ISAAC BRANDON PANAMA / JUL 20 1881' in violet, with faint 'NEW YORK F.D.' dated 29 July, a fine and rare example of Colombian postage used from Panama for foreign mail during the four month period the 5c basic rate was valid (1 July to 31 October 1881).rn
