Embossed Arms without Date 1887 (Jan): 1 d. violet on granite paper, perf. 11½, three single examples used on 1887 "Book Post" registered cover to Waterburg, Z.A.R., tied by oval "VRIJHEID / NIEUWE REPUBLIEK" datestamp in black (Sept 8) with circular negative cachet at lower left "Vreyheid, Nieuwe Republiek, Zuid Afrike / Post Kantoor" in black. Backstamped at "Utrecht / Z.A.R." (Sept 9). No Transvaal stamps applied and the cover passed to the Local Post of the "Bakker Express" on arrival in Pretoria for onwards transmission with "F.H.B. EXPRESS COMPANY Z.A.R." ½ d. black imperforate "TE BETALEN" (To Pay) label tied by WATERBERG arrival in violet and locally readdressed. Illustrated in Jonkers "De Nieuwe Republiek" on page 63.
