    Matabeleland Campaign 1888: ½ d. vermilion used on overprinted 1½ d. grey-blue postal stationery card cancelled by "676" numeral obliterators with fine strike of "PALAPYE" cds at left (Dec 25, 1893) in black. The card addressed to Cranbrook, Kent with message "Xmas Day, 1893. Receeived letter from Brooksden on 23rd. Parcel did not arrive but they never come as quickly as letters. We are having a splendid Xmas here, most of us are having a good hard day's work and 50 tons of stores for the War will be in in a day or two to keep the thing up. Wishing you best wishes for the New Year. Give the card to Soo.". Cranbrook arrival (Jan 22) on reverse. The occupation of Matabeleland was over by December 1893, Jameson having entered Bulawayo on November 4th., Palapye is situated approximately half-way between Gaberone and Bulawayo.
