    1873, Cèrés, 10 c brown on rose, 40 c. orange and 80 c., used on a part cover, sent from Guayaquil, Ecuador to Paris, France, via Panama, dated 25 November 1873, tied by blue anchor in lozenge cancel of the French Post Office in South America, with "GUAYAQUIL" French packet mark corresponding in blue datestamp alongside and "PD" framed in red, on revesre there is "CALDERA PAQ-FR.F.No 1" dated the same day, presumably struck in error on the steamer, Caldera a small port in Chile, also "LIGNE A FR. No 3" in black dated 1 December 1873, "CLERMONT-FERRAND (62)" dated 12 December 1873, Paris arrival 24 December 1873; the rate 1 f. 30 c. for letter up to 10 grams, the 80 c. has top corner fault and trimmed perfs. down right side, 10 c. dulled to trimmed perfs on one side, the cover is reduced and opened out, there is hinges joining the two parts, nevertheless a rare cover; one of seven known to France and with the erroneous Caldera paquebot mark; mentioned in "Poste Maritime Francaise".rnrnProvenance: Ex.
