    1894: De La Rue Hand-painted Essay for the proposed 3 d. value on card (27 x 30 mm.), the Badge of the Colony central vignette largely as utilised for the 1920's issues onwards, painted in green, deep green, reddish-purple and yellow-wash with ST. HELENA picked out in Chinese white, dated at top "1st Oct 94" in black ink. See "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 5449 for the full size Essays.
