    1848 (Nov 6): Entire letter from Plymouth to Adelaide, South Australia on printed stationery of the Australian Mining Company endorsed 'pr. Marion' at top. Handstruck "J.B. WILCOCKS / AGENT FOR GOVERNMENT / EMIGRATION / PLYMOUTH" at lower left, who forwarded the letter privately. Rated '6d.' to pay for an incoming Ship Letter in manuscript and struck with superb "G.P.O. / "♚ / SOUTH AUSTRALIA" datestamp (Feb 10, 1849) in black.rnrnNote: J.B. Wilcocks was the South Australian emigration agent in the Barbican, Plymouth. The addressee, Jacob Hagen (1805-1870), was a prominent Quaker land-owner in South Australia and one of the proprietors of the Australian Mining Co., best remembered for producing some of the first Wines in Australia.
