    1849 (Dec 2): Prepaid entire letter from Tarcutta to Yass struck with very fine octagonal framed "PAID AT / TARCUTTA" handstamp in red and rated '8d.' in manuscript adjacent, reverse with oval "TARCUTTA / ♚ / DE 3 / 1849 / NEW S. WALES" struck in black. Manuscript "Rec'd 5 Dec 1849 - Yass" at left. The fully transcribed contents refer to the expense a Mr. Napier is proposing for the cost of making Postmarks for the Tarcutta office and "if Mr. Napier would give a certain sum for performing a certain portion of the Post Office work that is most convenient to him such as the receiving and despatching of Mails, delivery of letters, it would perhaps be well to enter into some arrangement with him ..".
