    1840: 1 d. black, plate 2, lettered QC, a used example, good to large margins all round, on 1840 cover from Newcastle on Tyne (June 26) to Alston cancelled by fine strike of the Maltese Cross in red. Readdressed upon arrival in Alston to Gateshead with manuscript "Redirected at" alongside "ALSTON" undated circle in blue with rate "1" in ink at left. A fine and unusual cover.
