    1840: 1 d. black, plate 1a, lettered DF, a used example with large even margins all round, tied to 1840 cover from Chester to Macclesfield, by light strike of the Maltese Cross in red. Reverse with "CHESTER" double arc cds in black clearly dated "MY 8 / 1840" - the third Official day of issue. Internal docketing "Dixons & Wardell, Chester, 8 May 1840".
