Lot# 1221 - Auction 298-307

  • Lot# : 1221 Nepal

Indian Post Office - Incoming Mail 1865: ½ a. blue in a block of four and single 1869 4 a. green used on refolded 1870 registered cover from Tirhoot to Kathmandu tied by '130' numeral obliterators in blue with corresponding Tirhoot cds (Sept 3) alongside and framed registration handstamp in red. Struck on arrival with "NEPAUL" cds (Sept 8) struck in red - in "Nepal Postal History" Hellrigl states "Red strikes are particularly rare: only two faint impressions have been seen so far", this however is particularly clearly struck and predates the Hellrigl recorded examples by some 20 months. Imperfections but an important and rare cover that displays well.
