    1903/04: De La Rue Essay for the proposed 1 r. value, imperforate on thick card (90 x 115 mm.), photo-printed in deep blue with the Duty Plates and background swathes at top and at sides hand-painted in grey-blue, the Arabic inscription at top further picked out in Chinese white, the Flags and 'perforations' all hand-painted in red; the card marked "C" and dated "Oct 29th 03" at top and "Dupl., Design submitted in green with red flags" at base. Pencil "App'd" (Approved) at top. Illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 6572.
