    1915 (Jan): German East Africa 3 r. blue-black & red, handstamped "G.R. / MAFIA" in reddish-violet, a fine unused well centred example, one blunted perf. at right, of fine fresh colour, somewhat browned large part og. An exceptionally rare stamp with just 14 (David Field) issued or 20 examples (Bob Gibbs) believed to have been issued regardless of the overprint colour; Gibbs estimates just 12 examples were overprinted in reddish violet.
