    Recess by Perkins Bacon 1859: 6 d. purple-brown on white paper, wmk. Star, imperforate, a used horizontal pair on 1859 double rate cover to Brighton endorsed 'via Marseilles', three good margins close but clear at base and top showing portion of adjoining stamps, tied by barred obliterator handstamps in black. Reverse with "COLOMBO / POST PAID" despatch in red (Aug 30) alongside Brighton arrival cds (Sept 27). Some edge wear to envelope but a scarce and appealing cover.
