    British P.O. 1899: 2 a. 6 p. orange-yellow postal stationery envelope, a fine used example cancelled by bold "PONDICHERRY" cds (Aug 1, 1899), addressed to Noumea, New Caledonia. Carried on the P&O Steamer "Australia" to Colombo (Aug 11) and thence via Sydney (Aug 22). A most unusual destination.
