    1854/55: India 4 a. blue & red, Head Die III, Frame Die II (Gi 23), two cut to shape examples used on 1860 entire letter from Pondichery (Jan 11) to Port Louis, Mauritius endorsed "steamer via Aden", tied by "C / 111" obliterators in black, with curved "INDIA PAID" with manuscript "6d." inserted in red ink for credit to British P.O. struck at Madras. Further '4' pence British credit in red manuscript alongside. Carried on the "Bentinck" from Madras to Galle and P&O "Emue" from Aden to destination. Revrse with "Pondicherry" British cds in red-brown and "GPO / Mauritius" arrival (Feb 15). Imperfections and arricators but a scarce cover.
