    Charles Whiting & William Wyon 1840: Essay / Proof with embossed Wyon head within oval engine turned surround with "POSTAGE ONE PENNY" in small capital letters, with the pendant curl, printed in dark blue on thick card. This being the Master Die Proof of the approved design which was utilised for the Postal Stationery - printed before the initials "W.W." or Die number was inserted.
