    "Split Rates" 1861: Britannia 1 s. yellow-green, a used example on 1862 cover to London endorsed "Via Marseilles" tied by "B53" obliterator in black, with Accountancy marking "4½d." in red struck on despatch (Sept 9) for amount due to UK. Carried on the P&O "Ottawa" to Suez and thence by the "Valetta" to Marseille. 'London / Paid' arrival (Oct 13). Closed tear at upper left well away from the stamp and markings, an attractive cover.
