    Recess by H. and C. Best 1856/57: 2 d. dull emerald-green, no wmk., and 1857/69 4 d. blue, wmk. '4', touched to fine margins, used on 1857 cover to London endorsed "per Emeu"; tied by "60" numeral obliterators of Launceston and the 2 d. also tied by "POST OFFICE / LAUNCESTON / ♚ / VDL" in red (Sept 12). London arrival cds on obverse (Dec 7). The "Emeu" ran aground in the Red Sea near Jeddah and the Mails were turned over to the "Madras" for onward transmission. A fine and rare cover. Cert.
