    1881: De La Rue Essay for proposed ½ d. value, small sized and hand-painted in shades of emerald-green with lettering picked out in Chinese white on small thin card (25 x 28 mm.) dated at top "18.NOV.81" in manuscript. Illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 6039. This Essay, whilst initially rejected, nevertheless formed the basis for the 1883 bantam ½ d. adhesive.
