    1873/81: De La Rue Essay for proposed 9 d. value, stamp size on brown thin tracing paper (70 x 97 mm.), handpainted in olive-green and yellow-green with NEW SOUTH WALES, STAMP DUTY and NINE PENCE all picked out in Chinese white. Imperforate "De La Rue" engine turning label applied at base for proposed colour with "4d. Postage" above in pencil manuscript.
