Lot# 6546 - Auction 284 - 290

  • Lot# : 6546 Italy

    1 / 2
1865 (Oct 3): Double rate envelope from Pavia to Milano, bearing a mixed franking of 1863 DLR 15 c. celeste and 1865 (Jan) 'Ferro di cavallo' 20 on 15 c. blue in Type I, two fresh and fine adhesives, tied by fair PAVIA despatch cds, an information strike alongside. Reverse with indistinct arrival cds and distribution handstamps. A unique 'gemelli' combination, where the DLR adhesive was counted like a non-overprinted 'Ferro di cavallo' 20 centesimi adhesive, thus it was obliterated and the cover not taxed. A gem full of attractiveness for a most advanced collection of the early kingdom. Signed E. Diena & Sorani; certs. Raybaudi (1984), Bottacchi (2003), Serra (2003) Serra (1985) = unlisted.rnNote: Although the DLR 15 c. celeste was valid until the end of 1889, these adhesives were not sold at the post offices after the first quarter of 1865.
