    1859: 10 gr. 'rosa carminio chiaro in combination with 5 gr. 'carminio rosa', both from plate II, two fresh and fine adhesives, large to huge margined, cancelled by clear ANNULLATO 'a svolazzo' strikes with "REGGIO 4 OTT. 1860" despatch cds showing inverted month slug in red alongside, on entire letter via Messina to Malta. Reverse with Napoli transit (Oct 12) cds in red and MALTA arrival (Oct 17) cds in black. Part of address torn out but skillfully replaced, nevertheless a most interesting piece of postal history, correctly franked with 15 grana for French shipmail transport until the port of disembarkation following the Franco-Bourbon postal treaty of 1854. The receiver had to pay '1' (d.) for the residual journey, this due marking was partially torn away with parts of the address. Signed Renato Mondolfo Sassone = € 3'450.
