    1872 (March 23): Entire letter from Strasbourg to Laval, bearing a combination franking of Germany Small Shield 2 gr. blue (Mi 5) and France Cérès 25 c. blue type I (Yvert 60A). The German Imperial adhesive was tied by framed "STRASSBURG i. ELS / AVRICOURT 19 1 III" ambulant datestamp, the French adhesive in transit by Étoile de Paris mute obliterator in blue. Corresponding datestamps were struck alongside the adhesives with a mute "STRASBOURG (67)" circular handstamp and "PARIS ÉTRANGER 20 JANV. 72" transit cds, both in blue. Reverse with Paris - Brest ambulant and Laval arrival (Jan 21) cds's. A most attractive entire, signed Roumet.rnNote: Even after German Imperial adhesives of the Small Shield design had been issued on January 1st, 1872, combination frankings were necessary to pay the full journey.
