    1872: De La Rue artist's composite Essay for the 2 c. value (issued in pale brown), imperforate on thick card with head-plate taken from the 1867 De La Rue 3 d. carmine-rose, the surround to the head-plate hand-painted in carmine and Chinese white, the "Ceylon Postage" and "Two Cents" and frame hand-painted in red over pencil. Exquisite and unique.
