    Recess by De La Rue 1863/66: 2 d. grey green and 6 d. reddish-brown, wmk. Crown CC type 5, perf. 12½, used on 1866 cover endorsed "via Suez" to Bordeaux at single rate, tied by barred obliterator in black with Colombo despatch cds (Aug 16) in black below. Red 'P.D.' and circular "POSS. ANG. V SUEZ / A MARSEILLE A" entry marking in red at left (Sept 13) and Bordeaux arrival cds on reverse. The addressee's name written over but a scarce cover - full prepayment was not compulsory to France, only the 'Colonial 1 d.' had to be prepaid.
