Lot# : 7207 Preussen
Preussen 1851 (May 30): Ornamental Cover with embossed edges (Zierbrief), sent from Tarnowitz in Silesia to Lemberg / Lvov in Austrian Galizia, forwarded to Paris, bearing Prussia 1850 3 sgr. black on yellow, a fine and fresh example with large margins, tied by 'Vierring' '1492' numeral obliterator with matching TARNOWITZ despatch cds in black alongside. The reverse was struck by Breslau-Myslowitz ambulant, KRAKAU transit and LEMBERG arrival (June 2) cds's. As the addresse was not present there, the cover was forwarded to Paris, received in transit another KRAKAU and a French "AUTR. 7 JUIN 51 VALnes" entry in red on front as well as a PARIS arrival (June 7) cds's. It was regarded as an unpaid letter from Austria and the August 1849 rate of 120 c. was taxed and noted in manuscript with '12' décimes on front. A most attractive cover full of postal history content, cert. Brettl (2009).rnNote: Cover correctly franked in the third Postverein rayon from Silesia to Galizia, correctly taxed in France as unpaid with 120 c. which was the rate for fully paid as well as unpaid single rate covers from or to Austria. Héléne Poninska was a member of the well known Poninski family, which had a branch in Galizia with dominions in Czervonogrod and Grodek in the Lemberg district.Starting bid : 750 CHFHammer price : 1,200 CHF
