1859: ABN 1 c. pale rose (2, one originally applied over edge of cover) and 5 c. deep red pair, used on 1868 "Queen's Hotel, Toronto" illustrated advertising cover from Toronto to Paris all tied by barred obliterators in black. Toronto cds of despatch at left (Feb 12) and carried from Portland on Allan Line Steamer "Hibernian". Short paid to GB only with two line "PAID ONLY / TO ENGLAND" in black and manuscript "Under Paid" in blue crayon at top. Struck in London (Feb 27) with oval framed "GB / 40c." accountancy marking in black, thence via Calais where charged '10' décimes due in manuscript.
