    1853 (Oct): 5 c. green in a vertical pair and 40 c. light rose, fresh and fine adhesives with good to large margins, the pair with sheet margin at base, tied by light "NIZZA MARITTa 6 GEN 54" cds in black to envelope directed to Vendôme. Obverse struck with French "SARDAIGNE ANTIBES 7 JANV. 54" entry cds and "P.D." handstamp, both in red, reverse with Paris transit (Jan 10) and arrival (Jan 11) cds's. The pair with minor scuff at left due to its position at the cover edge, nevertheless an appealing cover with the 50 c. rate to France. Cert. E. Diena (1985) Sassone = € 21'500.rnNote: From the post office in Nizza Maritima there are also covers to France known which show an insufficient franking of only 45 centesimi, presumably an activity to defraud the postal service by a postal officer himself.
