    1849: Double rate Entire letter from the police of Alençon to the mayor of Angers bearing Cérès 10 c. bistre-brown in combination with 40 c. orange, fine examples with vibrant colour and good to large margins, each adhesive tied by crisp grill obliterator. Light despatch cds (Dec. 3, 51) alongside, reverse with arrival cds of the next day. Vertical file fold well away from the adhesives just mentioned for accuracy, a wonderful entire with this superb combination usage paying the increased double rate of 50 c. which came into force in July 1851.
