    Austrian Lloyd Agency Pontelagoscuro (Italy) 1855 (Aug. 24): Stato Pontificio 1 baj.  black on grey-green vertical pair and 4 baj. black on light grey-brown cancelled by 'Croce die Ferrara' black crosses and Pontelagoscuro cds's. with additional strike alongside, showing clear strike of oval "Agenzia Dell Lloyd Austriaco Ponte / Lagoscuro" in blue-green at lower left on outer lettersheet to Bologna with arrival cds. (Aug. 26) and 'Ferrara /Netto Fuori e dentro' handstamp on reverse. Some folds reinforced with hinges, one of the rarest Lloyd Austriaco marking. The Office based near Ferrara opened between 1852/59, the route used the River Po and provided the service between Trieste and Polesella to Lago Maggiore. Cert. Bottacchi AIEP (2021). A fine rarity.
