    1840 (Dec 1): Entire letter from Valparaiso to Arequipa with early endorsement of PSNC ship "Vapeur Peru" at lower left, the ship had only left London in June 1840 to begin the famous PSNC service; rated '2' (ship's fee) at right and struck with oxidised "ISLAY" handstamp in black (Colareta fig. 1 = 40 pts.) in transit and rated '4½' reales internal rate for a triple letter. Rare letter carried on the Second Sailing of the "Peru", the earliest recorded letter with a PSNC reference.
