    1821 (Dec 1): Printed entire letter from Valparaiso to Nantes, France stating that Peru was now Independent under General San Martin, and that Peru had opened their Ports to all countries of the World with the exception of Spain, with whom it was still at war. One of the first letters not transported by Spanish mail and ships. The entire travelled via the Magellan Straits (a journey time of eight months) and was struck on arrival with manuscript "Colonies Par" 34 / ST. SERVAN handstamp in black. Rare.
