PSNC & Messageries Impériales 1878: Cover from Santiago to Caravaggio, Ittaly franked by 1877 5 c. lake pair with marginal imprint at top, cancelled in black with "SANTIAGO / CHILE" datestamp of despatch in violet at left (June 5). British P.O. three line dated "PANAMA / TRANSIT" in black (June 28) and passed to French Office with triangular 'T' mark in black as underpaid and octagonal "PANAMA / PAQ. FR. A No. 2" datestamp (July 1) struck in red (Salles fig. 1413). Carried on the Paquebot "St. Germain" to St. Nazaire, taxed on arrival with Italy 1870 Postage Due 5 c. (2) and 30 c.
