    RMSP 1881: The famous registered cover from Cartaghena to Breslau, Germany franked by the extraordinary combination of Great Britain 1870 1½ d. lake pl. 3, 1881 1 s. orange-brown pl. 13 and unlisted 1880 4 d. grey-brown pl. 17 (two examples, unrecorded by Stanley Gibbons used in Colombia), the first two stamps tied by bold "C65" obliterator (error of number of C56) and the 4 d. tied solely by "REGISTERED" in black. Repeated REGISTERED at upper left and single ring CARTHAGENA cds (March 2) adjacent. Carried on the RMSP "Don" to St. Thomas. Oval 'Registered / London' in red (March 30) and German registration label 'Vom Auslande über / Bahnp. 10 Verviers-Cöln'. Reverse with Breslau arrival cds (April 1) and a further strike of the straight line 'Registered' handstamp. A remarkable and rare cover: the sole recorded usage of the 4 d. grey-brown in Colombia and one of just five recorded covers with the "C65" error.
