    Mail carried by British Ships 1840 (July 13): Entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to London, endorsed internally "per ship Maria", struck with fine framed "GUERNSEY / SHIP LETTER" in black (Robertson S2). Annotated on obverse "1 oz" and charged double at '2/8 d.' to pay, with London arrival in red (Sept 25). A fine entire that displays well.
