    1840: 1 d. black, plate 1b, lettered JC, a used example with large even margins all round, tied to 1840 cover from Wareham to London by watery red Maltese Cross. Reverse with double arc WAREHAM despatch cds (Aug 26) in black and London arrival in red. File folds well away from the fine adhesive which shows the recut letters 'J' and 'C'. Gi = £ 1'000+.
