1863 (April 4): Great Britain 1858/69 2 d. blue pl. 9, a vertical pair used on 1863 cover from Malta to Messina, tied by horizontal "MALTA / A25" duplex in black (April 4). Underpaid for double rate with '2' at upper left and struck with INSUFFICIENTLY-PAID handstamp in black as shortpaid 2 d. and manuscript alteration alongside '2½' and red '1¼' equate to the '4¾' pence to be credited to the Italian Post Office; struck with fine PIROSCAFI / POSTALI / FRANCESI in black and '14' centesemi to collect on arrival in Messina (April 6).
