    1855 (Dec 24): Envelope from London to Hokianga, New Zealand, bearing 1847-54 Embossed 6 d. dull lilac, wmk 'VR', imperforated, a superb fresh and fine example in a deep shade with good to huge margins all round incl. parts of the upper neighbouring stamp, cancelled by London Inland numeral '16'. Reverse with London despatch cds, obverse with Auckland (April 24, 1856) and Russel (April 27, 1856) transit cds as well as part HOKIANGA arrival datestamp (May ..). Framed "ADVERTISED / UNCLAIMED" handstamp struck alongside. Signed A. Diena. Certs. G. Bolaffi (1979), BPA (2016) Gi = £ 1'900 on cover.rnNote: During the Crimean War, from January 1855 until October 1856 two fleets of Liverpool clippers filled the gap which was due the divertion of vessels from their normal routes, especially those to the Australian colonies. The present cover was transported with ter 'Oliver Lang' of James Baines' Black Ball line, it left Liverpool on January 7th, passed the Cape, and arrived at Melbourne on April 3rd, 1856. The renumeration was half the British postage, i.e. 6 d.
